I have finally accepted that vinyl and cd have a class of its own and cannot be compar ed. No ringing in the ears even after loading the decibels on the amp. Trying out all the CD's i have listened before on other players. T o my surprise i have been listening to this setup for more than 4 hrs at a stretch almost every day. That "digital" sound never sounded so good especially to a trained vinyl ear like mine. Treble is crisp airy n spacious, mids are lush and captivating and bass is musical and tight. But this was a good way to prove the CD PLAYERS performance. I thought i would be put off by this combination. I anticipated the sound to be very bright, fatiguing and ear bleeding. I took a gamble by putting the Arcam CD17 together with them. With a vinyl player the Cary and the Proacs sober down and hold their own warmth and style. The Proacs and the Cary together sound very bright and forward in their presentation. It wont attempt to convert theĬrap to hi-fidelity just to save its digital ego. So if you put in a badly mastered CD, then it will just throw up digital garbage. It just presents the recording like it is. The Arcam CD17 does not add or dilute anything from the CD. It aims to compose its entire act, differently from other players above and below its class. It is a digital CD player and it stays true to its signature "Digital" sound. But then again it does not assume to be one. The Arcam CD17 may never come close to the presentation and warmth of a VINYL PLAYER. Simply put i got a birds eye view of a soundstage, id realize, only if i had wings and could fly !!!! But most of all the bird (CD17) was in flight and the entire soundstaging was simply mesmerising as it gained in height. The bottom end was like the tail, only showing itself and manouvering the entire body, Every sound recorded on the CD got its chance to make itself known. The vocals were centered dead on like the head of the bird and the remaining instruments perfectly balanced like the feathers on the left and right wing. I pictured the Arcam CD17's presentation, to a bird. So i decided to pop in an "Audiophile" Studio mastered 24-bit 192khz CD, to see how much more the entire presentation would change. It just presents whats there, nothing more nothing less. It brings out every detail in ordinary consumer CD's. Its presentation is dead flat on the entire audio spectrum. ![]() On first audition, I could not believe my ears, the player sounded so lush and captivating.Īfter a few days more, of casual listening, the player started showing its true colours. I could see from the Arcam CD-17 build quality, that something within was waiting to reveal itself. ![]() Also using Ps-AUDIO Premier voltage regeneration power supply. I placed the Arcam FMJ CD17 player in my rack and hooked it up to the Cary Sli 80 signature integrated amp and the Proac's Studio 140 speakers using Van Den Hull The Bay C5 Hybrid interconnects and Audioquest Cv-6 speakers cables. I got delivery of the Arcam FMJ CD-17 a few days back.
